BREEDERS AND VIROLOGISTS WORKSHOP
Laying the foundations for common guidelines
From 11 to 13 April 2018, WAVE held the first African Cassava Breeders and Virologists Workshop on “Working together for sustainable cassava production in Africa” in Abidjan.
Nearly forty researchers coming from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, DRC, Gabon, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda and Zambia converged to Abidjan for this important meeting.
The main objective of the meeting was to develop synergy between African breeders and virologists in order to increase sustainable cassava production in Africa.
More specifically, the aims of the workshop were to:
– Harmonize views for better management of cassava varieties and effective viral disease control
– Adopt a naming convention for cassava varieties
